after leaving gyeongju national museum, sunam and i walked back across gyeongju towards the bus station.

behind the horse in the above picture are some of the many ancient burial tombs of the silla kingdom, which can be found all over gyeongju.
첨성대 (cheomseongdae), the ancient astronomy observatory, which unfortunately we couldn't get closer to

from there sunam and i sought to find some famous red bean 경주빵(gyeongju bbang, gyeongju bread), particularly the famous 황남빵 (hwangnam bbang) store. i visited there back in april of 2004, but we couldn't find it as we walked around. we stopped at another shop of the same name, but later realized we'd been duped into thinking that was the same as the original and more famous kind. the bread was still good, so it wasn't a big deal.
by now it was getting dark out, so we caught the bus back to pohang. the next day we took another big day trip to 부산 (busan), which the next few posts will cover...
