on friday morning, april 28, i came out of my building and walked to the bus stop, which is literally about ten steps away from the front door. the bus stops at my place because of the movie theater next door, and since it isn't open in the mornings, sometimes the bus drivers tend to overlook my stop, and once or twice have passed me by entirely. usually it's no big deal, i just kinda wave my arm when i see them coming and they stop for me. but this particular morning there was a car parked near the bus stop and i was wondering how that might affect the buses.
not ten seconds later a tiny little car pulled out and a woman in a maroon uniform hopped out. she had that kind of smug look on her face that told me instantly she was the meter maid. people park in all kinds of places here in seoul and in my almost 15 months of total time spent here this was the first parking enforcement i've ever seen.
meter maid
i took a picture of her as she appeared to be writing out the ticket
here's her tiny car
don't you just love the fact that she parked right in front of the fire hydrant? what hypocrisy!
whoa, her ticket writing machine takes digital pictures, too
notice the covert method in which i photographed her. unfortunately right after this i realized that there was another guy in the tiny car so i guess he could have seen me snapping her picture all that time. and maybe he's there to move the car in case of a fire, who knows.
what was really interesting was she didn't leave a ticket or any indication that they'd been there. i guess whoever owns the car will get the ticket in the mail, along with a digital picture of the car illegally parked, which i suppose will be a tough ticket to fight.
